BattleBit Remastered: Complete Guide
How to be useful in 254-player BattleBit: classes and loadouts, squads and squad leading, game modes and server sizes, gunplay and movement, vehicles, destruction, progression, and what the upcoming Operation Overhaul update is changing.
Researched September 2026 — current as of the live Early Access build while the Operation Overhaul update is still in development (latest dev blog July 27, 2026; no release date announced). Live games change; check the linked sources if something differs.
State of the Game (September 2026)
BattleBit Remastered (SgtOkiDoki, Vilaskis and TheLiquidHorse) launched into Steam Early Access on June 15, 2023 and sold 1.8 million copies in its first two weeks. After the launch wave, updates slowed, and the team has spent much of 2024-2026 on a huge update called Operation Overhaul:
- Playtests: a four-hour public playtest ran November 29, 2025 on a Steam beta branch (on Kodiak, Mesa and Valley). It exposed a severe memory leak (players reported 5-10 FPS), which the team traced to audio and fixed by moving to the FMOD audio engine (dev blog #1, January 2026).
- Dev blogs since then covered gameplay changes (March 2026), new and reworked maps (May and July 2026).
- Release date: not announced as of September 2026.
Everything below covers the live game unless marked "Overhaul". Expect the Overhaul to change class weapon pools, movement and time-to-kill when it lands.
Quick Start
- Join a squad and stay near it. Squads spawn on each other and on the Squad Leader's rally point. Solo players waste most of their time running.
- Pick Medic early. It's the easiest way to be useful: revive and heal people and you'll top the scoreboard.
- Bandage when you're bleeding. Damage can make you bleed; patch up before re-engaging.
- Play the objective. Points and wins come from capturing and holding flags, not kill counts.
- Use proximity voice chat. Open VOIP is a core part of the game — call out enemies and coordinate with anyone near you.
- Build and destroy. Squads can put up fortifications and cover; explosives can blow walls and bring down buildings.
- Level weapons to unlock attachments. Every weapon has its own progression; stick with one for a while.
- Pick a server size you enjoy. 64-, 128- and 254-player servers play very differently.

Maximum scale; huge frontlines and constant action |

Classes
| Class |
Role |
Tips |
| Squad Leader |
Leads the squad, places a rally point for squad spawns, gives orders |
Place rallies near (not on) the objective; mark targets for your squad |
| Assault |
All-purpose frontline fighter |
Push objectives with the squad; clear rooms |
| Medic |
Healing and fast revives |
Stay behind the frontline, revive under cover |
| Support |
Ammo and suppression |
Drop ammo boxes, lay down suppressive fire with LMGs |
| Engineer |
Anti-vehicle and destruction |
Take on tanks and helicopters; repair friendly vehicles |
| Recon |
Long range and scouting |
Spot for the team; take out enemy snipers and squad leaders |
Squad Leader is a big deal. A good leader keeps a rally point near the fight and orders the squad onto one objective at a time; following orders is also how the squad earns more points.
Gunplay and Movement
- Recoil and bullet drop are real. Tap or burst fire at range; spray only up close.
- Aim for the head. Headshots end fights quickly in a game with a fairly long time-to-kill.
- Lean and peek. Use cover and angles; don't stand in doorways.
- Moving targets are harder to hit. Strafe during fights.
- Suppression matters. Support LMGs and sustained fire reduce the enemy's ability to shoot back accurately.
Weapon Progression
Each weapon has its own level. Kills with a weapon unlock more attachments for it, such as sights, grips, barrels and magazines. Leveling a weapon to unlock a good optic and grip usually makes it much easier to use.
Player level unlocks more weapons and gadgets over time.
Vehicles
The live build has tanks, IFVs, transport vehicles, helicopters (transport and attack), and boats.
- Engineers counter vehicles. Rockets, mines and C4 are how infantry deal with armor.
- Transport helicopters win games when they drop squads on objectives. Land behind cover, not on the flag.
- Don't solo-crew a tank near infantry. Keep engineers nearby for repairs.
- Boats matter on island maps for flanking.
Destruction
Most buildings and walls can be damaged or leveled. Use this:
- Blow a hole in a wall instead of using the door everyone is aiming at.
- Bring down a building on campers with enough explosives.
- Put fortifications and cover back up around objectives you're holding.
Maps
The live build has 22 maps: Azagor, Basra, Construction, District, Dusty Dew, Eduardovo, Frugis, Isle, Kodiak, Lonovo, Multu Islands, Namak, Oil Dunes, Outskirts, River, Salhan, Sandy Sunset, Tensa Town, Valley, Wakistan, Wine Paradise and ZalfiBay (per the BattleBit wiki; server rotations vary by mode and size). Maps range from tight cities to open islands.
General map tips:
- Rooftops are strong but exposed to helicopters and snipers.
- Flank flags instead of running the main road.
- On big maps, use transports or spawn on the squad instead of running.
Operation Overhaul: What's Coming
From the 2025-2026 playtests and dev blogs (all subject to change):
Gameplay (Dev Blog #2, March 2026)
- Class weapon pools — weapon availability will be tied more closely to class role, instead of the current, more open system.
- Tactical sprint — a faster sprint usable for a short period.
- Drop-shotting nerf — dropping prone while firing adds recoil; new stance transition animations; limited turn speed while prone.
- Faster vaulting and reduced mid-air turning (air strafe reduction).
- Time-to-kill adjustments, attachment stat changes and gadget tweaks.
Tech and audio (Dev Blog #1, January 2026)
- Move to the FMOD audio engine to fix the memory leak.
- Reworked tracers, improved vehicle physics, and a new ricochet effect.
Maps (Dev Blogs #3 and #4)
- Mesa (new) — a dense American city with skyscrapers, surrounded by desert.
- Aftermath (new) — Old Namak's layout after an earthquake.
- Peaks (new) — a large map: a 2x2 km valley with a bunker in the northern mountain and a radar station on the southern one.
- Reworks of most existing maps, including Lonovo, Salhan, Valley and Wakistan (which gets a centralized Objective C with randomized side objectives).
The November 2025 playtest also tested night lighting and a day/night vote. It ran on the Steam beta branch ("beta - Operation Overhaul test"), and future tests will follow the same process.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
- Playing solo in a 254-player server. You'll spend all your time running and getting sniped.
- Ignoring your squad leader's orders. Following orders helps the whole squad.
- Reviving in the open. Smoke first, or drag the fight away.
- Running out of ammo — find a Support player or ammo box.
- Only chasing kills. Flags win games.
- Crowding one doorway. Blow a new entrance.
Advanced Tips
- Squad leaders: place rallies behind cover near the next objective, before your squad needs them.
- Use smoke for revives and crossing open ground.
- Spot enemies constantly as Recon — it helps everyone.
- Engineers should shadow friendly armor. A repaired tank holds a flag far longer.
- Learn the maps' high ground. Rooftops and hills decide fights on many maps.
- Keep an eye on the Overhaul. When it releases, the class weapon pools and movement changes will reset a lot of habits.
