Assassin's Creed III Remastered: Complete Guide

A player-focused guide to Assassin's Creed III Remastered on PC: Connor's campaign, the Homestead economy, naval play, The Tyranny of King Washington, the bundled Assassin's Creed Liberation Remastered, and a 100% plan built around the Steam achievements added in 2025.

Researched September 2026 — current as of the final PC build (Steam achievements added February 25, 2025; no further content updates since). Live games change; check the linked sources if something differs.

Quick Start

  1. The first three sequences are a long prologue. You play as Haytham Kenway before Connor (Ratonhnhaké:ton) even appears. Stick with it; the open world and systems open up properly around Sequence 5.
  2. What the Remaster changed matters. You can whistle from any hiding spot (not just corners), perform double assassinations without going high profile, and free-aim your bow and pistols. Crafting, the economy, and the minimap icons were all overhauled.
  3. Multiplayer is gone. The Remaster is single-player only. It bundles all solo DLC (including The Tyranny of King Washington) plus the full Assassin's Creed Liberation Remastered.
  4. Invest in the Homestead early. Recruiting and helping Homestead residents unlocks crafting recipes, and crafting plus convoys is how Connor makes real money.
  5. Do the Aquila naval missions as soon as they unlock. They are some of the best content in the game, upgrades for the ship come from them, and "All Washed Up" requires finishing all of them.
  6. Recruit Assassins through liberation missions. Liberating districts in Boston and New York earns you recruits you can call in combat and send on contracts for money and experience.
  7. Counter, then kill. Combat is timing-based: counter when the red indicator appears, then pick a follow-up (kill, disarm, throw, or break defence). Grenadiers and officers need a break defence or disarm first.
  8. Replay memories for optional objectives. Full synchronisation constraints can be replayed later, so do not stress about them on a first run.

Core Systems

Movement and Free-Running

Stealth

Combat

Enemy Types

Enemy How to deal with them
Regulars Counter and kill; fine to chain
Grenadiers (large brutes) Break defence first, or use a disarm counter; avoid trading blows
Officers Break defence, then kill; they coordinate firing lines
Jagers (elite hunters) Appear at high notoriety; tough and fast. Lower notoriety to stop them spawning
Riflemen and firing lines Human shield, or close the distance and interrupt them

Hunting

The Frontier is full of animals whose pelts, meat, and parts sell well or feed crafting.

The Homestead, Crafting, and Money

The Davenport Homestead is Connor's base. Homestead missions bring in artisans and settlers, each of whom unlocks production and crafting.

Residents you will recruit include Achilles (your mentor, living in the manor), farmers, loggers, a blacksmith, a tailor, a hunter, a miner, and innkeepers. Getting any artisan settled pops "House Party"; getting every optional character settled pops "A Complete Set".

Money loop:

  1. Complete Homestead missions to unlock resident levels and recipes.
  2. Gather raw materials (from residents, hunting, and purchase).
  3. Craft goods and send them out by convoy to Boston, New York, and the Frontier.
  4. Upgrade transport capacity so each convoy carries more.

Convoy tips:

What to spend on:

Connor captains the brig Aquila. Naval play covers main-story missions, optional naval missions, and privateer contracts.

Controls in brief: raise sails to half for tight turns and full sails for speed; line up with an enemy to fire broadsides; use swivel guns for weak points; chain shot targets masts at short range. Brace for impact when enemy broadsides are coming (watch the colour warnings).

Tips:

Assassin Recruits and Liberation Missions

Boston and New York are divided into districts. Completing liberation missions in a district earns you a recruit. Up to six recruits can join you.

FAQ

Does Assassin's Creed III Remastered have Steam achievements? Yes, since February 25, 2025. They cover the main game, The Tyranny of King Washington, and Liberation, and already-completed accomplishments sync retroactively when you launch the game once.

Is multiplayer included? No. The Remaster removed multiplayer. It includes all single-player DLC.

How long is it? The main story is long for the series because of the Haytham prologue. Expect roughly a few dozen hours for the story, and much more for 100% plus Tyranny of King Washington and Liberation.

Do I need a Ubisoft account? Yes, the PC version uses Ubisoft Connect alongside Steam.

Can I miss collectibles or achievements permanently? Most AC III content can be finished after the story and memories can be replayed. In Liberation, plan to kill all Citizen E targets before the finale for the true ending.

Should I play the original or the Remaster? The Remaster, for the stealth, aiming, and crafting improvements, unless you specifically want the original's multiplayer (which is not in the Remaster either way).
